Very sad to report that as I was typing the last blog entry and attaching a photo of beautiful Celly our black cat and pumpkin jack, taken only minutes before, a knock on the door brought us terrible news-that she had been hit by a car and nothing could be done. She was the perfect cat for us-a bit of a random rag bag, liking garlic and sitting on top of the yurt. We will miss her dreadfully and can't quite believe this has happened. Farewell funny lady...you were one in a million.x

Happy Halloween Folks! The skies are starting to darken, the wind is starting to howl and I am about to embark on making a Halloween feast including mummified dogs and oreo graveyards! Thing 1 is preparing her outfit, Thing 2 is drawing a face on every satsuma in the house and Ophelia is resignedly allowing us to make her look her worst...not an easy thing for one so beautiful! We are not sure what character she is for tonight...maybe red riding hood gone wrong, prom queen massacre...? Any ideas? Please let us know! Celestina the cat is of course perfectly dressed for Halloween all year round and had no problem posing with Jack for this gorgeous photo below. Wishing you all a fabulously frightening and funny Halloween...we'll be back! Mwahhaahaahaahaa...
Hello folks, far and wide...We need your help!! We are on a mission to send Ophelias scream into space! Random I know but thats my life :o) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE click the link below to vote for Ophelia and family to be one of the top ten chosen screams to be sent on an android mobile in to orbit to help Cambridge University discover if 'in space no-one hears you scream' is true or not! Its far out fun ladies and gents but we need a whole load of votes to get us there. You don't have to give any personal information at all-its just a case of clicking a button and deciphering and typing one of those tricky words to make sure you are human. A million thanks in advance of your support on this crazy venture and to those who have already given theirs.
http://www.screaminspace.com/video/gJzQyZZe5Z0 Drab is Fab 2012 Ophelia seems to be having a bit of a dull time of it lately, dressed in all manner of sensible clothing, looking very mumsy (well, not like this mum I guess) and homely (but again, not this home)...She's suburban sensational! It is bringing the atmosphere down-this is not what she is meant to be and it feels like living inside a retro freemans catalogue. Desperate as I am to de-frump her (does that sound iffy?) I have to have patience because just around the corner is one wacky wild and wicked Halloween ensemble that will freak the village (maybe) and bring Phelies dark side to life! Photos to follow of course but for now you will have to embrace the blouse and cardi combo. Apologies for the lack of colour in this shot-Thing 1 has switched the camera to black and white and I don't have enough enthusiasm to work out how to switch it back! Adds to the dreariness I think! Enjoy.x
Good evenin' all! This weekend just gone saw us blogites travel to Bath to take part in a Christmas cake making extravaganza! I kid you not, there were 17 cakes to worship at the end of it all and ours will undoubtedly be decorated in the most kitsch way you can possibly imagine...photos will follow nearer Chrimble.
Poor old Phelie of course was too fraj to make the journey but was forever in our thoughts, never more so than when we rediscovered the marvellous Jack and Dannys vintage and ex-theatrical costume shop at the top of our beloved Walcot St...Thing 1 rather rapidly discovered a huge hopper ot hairpieces and after a long rummage in the rugtank rejecting those that looked like squashed rats we found 2 perfect new looks for Ophelia and of course much hilarity was had from that moment on. Think Cher 1 and Cher 2 (mahoosive head of unruly curls a la Heart of Stone LP and more demure black sleek long bob of the egyptian days with Sonny). Then of course theres the Brian May potential...we are loving messing about with the new wiggage! Check out the wigs below and take a look at a new shot under the characterdays page! Oooh we do love a bit of hairlarity! Tara for now! Just discovered this fascinating account of the historic case of 'Cynthia' the celebrity mannequin of the 1930's. Perhaps its time for a re-run starring none other than our beloved Phelie! Happy reading!
http://life.time.com/curiosities/cynthia-world-famous-mannequin/#17 I do like to think we maintain Ophelias dignity at a higher level than poor ol' Cynths! Also Phelie is now a facebook phenomenon! You can friend her...Ophelia Days...go on-when it all breaks out and goes viral you'll wanna be by her side!x As the onslaught of premature festivisation begins I have found myself wondering how to escape the sense of humbugness and Christmas misery that befalls me each run-up. It is not easy to maintain an interest or enthusiasm for spending vast quantities of unnecessary money, thinking of new ways to write a Christmas card to someone you haven't even thought about all year or indeed to spend your days hoovering pine needles. Something needs to change!
In a flash of what I can only describe as inspirational genius I have come up with the answer! Christmas is a time for sharing and laughter and provides a wealth of opportunities for extending the fun with ridicule. This year Matthew I am gonna have a bad taste Christmas!!! Yeehaa! I am soooo excited already. Bring it on! Think mullets, shell suits, Barlow glasses (Deidre not Gary), rotten tinsel, sparse pines, tasteless baubles, cinzano, jumpsuits, Christmas jumpers, bumbags for the hipflask, crackers that fail to snap, shocking centrepieces and nasty nasty cards. I seriously cannot wait and have been scouring Ebay like a madwoman. The only hiccup with this wonderful plan is that Thing 1 wants a Tudor Christmas and Thing 2 wants a cross-dressing one...I reckon all three can be combined quite comfortably! Ophelia is gonna rock some serious looks here...let the corrupt kitsch Christmas commence! For those amongst you wanting to know a little more about Ophelias past here is all that I know...Ophelia is an original Adel Rootstein mannequin who was discovered amongst friends patiently waiting for a new chapter in her life to begin, in a charity shop in Ely. Unceremoniously carried to the car in pieces Ophelia caused a stir amongst the public instantly and within a few minutes walk we had been stopped for a photo, potentially to go on the snappers next band album cover. Ophelia left behind two companions-another female with a rather twisted and anorexic body shape and a gentleman with no head. The trio had been donated to the shop after completing their contract at Ely Museum. Many months later I met a man who worked at Ely Museum and we discussed Ophelia-it appears that he had taken her to the charity shop and I had picked her up and that in her previous life she had been a rather dowdy farmers wife for many years as an exhibit at the museum. Boy is she glad to be outta there!
